Yes, Dragon Quest XII is actually happening and it’s being planned to launch with a simultaneous worldwide release. The game was announced on May 27th, 2021, the 35th anniversary of the Dragon Quest series in a YouTube livestream. When asked about the hardware the game would come to as well as the release date, the creators weren't able to offer any additional information. Rounding out six promised game announcements today, Square Enix finally revealed the next mainline title in the Dragon Quest series or its logo, at least. Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate (XII Doragon Kuesuto Toerubu Erabareshi Unmei no Honoo) is the twelfth main Dragon Quest series game. The Command Battle system will be changed in the game, and it was teased that there'd be some decision-making asked of players, though how that'll be implemented remains to be seen. He mentioned that The Flames of Fate would be a "darker" take on the Dragon Quest world and that it was a Dragon Quest game geared more towards adults.
